From AI Literacy for All to Low-Carbon Transformation: Asia Cement Wins Dual Honors at Commonwealth Sustainability Citizen Awards and Talent Sustainability Awards

TAIPEI, Taiwan — CommonWealth Magazine has announced the winners of the 2026 "CommonWealth Sustainability Citizen Awards," with Asia Cement Corporation (ACC) once again receiving dual honors: the "CommonWealth Sustainability Citizen Award" and the "CommonWealth Talent Sustainability Award." Out of 30 companies selected in the Large Manufacturing Enterprise category this year, ACC secured its place, underscoring its long-term commitment and achievements in low-carbon transformation, talent development, and shared social prosperity.

In alignment with this year’s theme, "AI-Driven ESG," ACC launched an "AI Literacy for All" training program in 2025. The initiative enhances employees' AI application, carbon reduction, and digital capabilities based on their specific roles while sharpening management decision-making skills. By incorporating carbon reduction targets into performance management, ACC ensures that sustainability is seamlessly integrated into daily operations. In 2025, the company’s Human Capital Return on Investment (HCROI) rose to NT$17.1. ACC was also recognized as one of HR Asia’s "Best Companies to Work for in Asia" and awarded the "Happy Enterprise" distinction by 1111 Job Bank.

ACC is actively driving the low-carbon transformation of its core cement business by focusing on five key pathways: alternative fuels, alternative raw materials, low-carbon cement production, energy efficiency enhancement, and carbon capture and utilization. These measures have systematically reduced manufacturing carbon emissions, achieving a cumulative reduction of 870,000 metric tons by the end of 2025. Furthermore, ACC is extending its carbon reduction efforts from production to application by promoting low-carbon cement and concrete. By connecting the upstream and downstream sectors of the building materials industry, ACC is ensuring tangible carbon reductions across actual engineering projects.

In terms of sustainable governance, ACC continues to refine its practices. The company has met its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) climate goals for six consecutive years and achieved the highest "A" rating in both Climate Change and Supplier Engagement from the CDP. Additionally, ACC was included in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for the third consecutive year, standing out as the only Taiwanese building materials company selected in 2026. ACC also earned a score of 4.6 in the FTSE Russell ESG Ratings, placing it among the top-tier listed companies in Taiwan and demonstrating its continuous accomplishments in climate governance, low-carbon transition, and sustainability management.

Natural ecosystems represent another vital component of ACC’s sustainability efforts. Incorporating nature and biodiversity into its sustainability management framework, ACC aims to achieve "No Net Loss of Biodiversity" by 2030 while continuing ecological restoration in its mining areas. Currently, the revegetation and ecological recovery rate in these areas has reached 95.7%, with sightings of protected species such as yellow-throated martens, crab-eating mongooses, and Asian box turtles. International Cement Review previously lauded these restoration achievements by referring to the site as a "Forest Factory," highlighting ACC’s ongoing efforts to balance resource development with ecological conservation.

ACC’s commitment to sustainability extends to community engagement as well. The company continues to deepen its collaboration with local communities and Indigenous tribes in Hualien, supporting community development, ecological conservation, and cultural promotion through its "10+11" benefit-sharing mechanism. Following last year's disasters in Hualien, ACC immediately provided disaster prevention assistance and post-disaster relief to support the local community through difficult times. Simultaneously, ACC continues to advance the return of Indigenous reserve land rights in the Xincheng Mountain mining area, fulfilling its promise of co-creation and shared prosperity with local communities.

ACC stated that moving forward, it will remain talent-centric and driven by low-carbon transformation. The company plans to deepen natural conservation and local co-creation, fulfill its responsibilities as a corporate citizen, and extend sustainability from within the enterprise to the industry and broader society.
