Asia Cement: The Only Cement Company to Receive Two Sustainable Excellence Awards 

Asia Cement received two prestigious awards, "Excellent: Category of Manufacturing Industry" and "Excellent: Environmental Sustainability" at the 20th ESG Corporate Sustainability Awards hosted by " Global Views Magazine" on May 2nd. The company stood as the sole cement company to receive such recognition. Lee Kun-Yen, President of Asia Cement, attended the ceremony to receive the awards. He stated that these accolades affirm Asia Cement's strategy for long-term sustainability and recognize the relentless efforts of all its employees. Asia Cement will continue to promote environmental sustainability and social responsibility, collaborating with all stakeholders to create a green and bright future.

To ensure its long-term sustainability, Asia Cement's Board of Directors established the Corporate Sustainability Report Committee as the top-level ESG governance structure. This committee systematically sets comprehensive long-term strategic directions that address critical issues such as net zero emissions, circular economy, biodiversity conservation, community engagement, environmental education, labor rights, workplace safety, and corporate governance. The committee's efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and involve cross-departmental collaboration.

As a frontrunner in the industry, Asia Cement is committed to developing eco-friendly cement and promoting greenhouse gas emission reduction to cultivate a sustainable green economy. In recent years, the company has made remarkable technological breakthroughs. By leveraging the intense heat of cement kilns, Asia Cement has successfully transformed decommissioned wind turbine blades into alternative raw materials and fuels for cement production. Additionally, it has developed the first domestic refrigerant feeding system specifically designed for cement kilns, assisting the government in eliminating large amounts of illegally imported refrigerant. Moreover, Asia Cement collaborates with domestic and international institutions to conduct extensive research on carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technology, paving the way for achieving the net zero emissions goal by 2050.

Asia Cement recognizes that coexisting harmoniously with natural ecosystems is the cornerstone of sustainable cement production. Since its inception, the company has been committed to reforestation and ecological conservation in mining areas to minimize the negative environmental impact of mining operations. In 1974, Asia Cement initiated reforestation efforts at Xincheng Mountain using a nature-mimicking reforestation approach to restore the interconnected web of life in the ecosystem. In 2002, the company established an ecological park at the foot of the mountain, undertaking off-site planting of native tree species to further stabilize the ecosystem. These efforts have resulted in a clean environment, fresh air, abundant forage, and nectar plants, attracting an increasing number of butterflies to inhabit and breed. 

Asia Cement is committed to fostering environmental awareness and taking ecological education to the next level. The company has established a dedicated 24-member ecological environmental education team that plays a pivotal role in preserving butterfly habitats and providing educational tours for visitors. Collaborating with universities and NGO groups, the team has created a wealth of teaching materials using rich data and expertise in butterfly conservation. Their efforts extend beyond the company's premises, as they travel across Taiwan, assisting communities and schools in creating butterfly-friendly environments. To date, the team has successfully built 34 small butterfly gardens, laying the groundwork for a more ambitious endeavor – the large-scale "Taiwan Butterfly Restoration Project." This project aims to link butterfly habitats across the island, forming an island-wide butterfly corridor and restoring Taiwan's reputation as the "Kingdom of Butterflies."
